Programs & Services by Branch

  • Corporate Services
    To provide executive direction, policy development and management support services. The activity components include Communications, Finance and Administration, Human Resources Services, Strategic Policy and Systems.
  • Employment Insurance
    Employment Insurance (EI) helps unemployed Canadians between jobs by providing temporary financial assistance while they look for work or upgrade their skills, or while they are pregnant, caring for a newborn or adopted child, or sick.
  • Employment Programs Branch
    The Employment Programs Branch (EPB) helps Canadians to improve their employment prospects, while enhancing the fairness and efficiency of Canada's evolving labour market.
  • Grants and Contributions
    Our Grants and Contributions programs benefit Canadians individually as well as organizations.
  • Homelessness
    The Government is building partnerships with provinces and territories, municipal governments, non-profit and private sectors and individuals.
  • Human Investment Programs
    The Human Investment Programs brings together those "nationally-delivered" programs administered by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) that deal with the labour market, social development and learning.
  • Income Security
    Income Security Programs administers the Canada Pension Plan, is responsible for the Old Age Security pension, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Allowance, and Allowance for the survivor. Together, these benefits ensure a basic income to all eligible Canadians.
  • Knowledge Matters
    Knowledge Matters: Skills and Learning for Canadians recognizes that a country's greatest resource in the knowledge society is its people. It looks at what can be done to strengthen learning in Canada, to develop people's talent and to provide opportunity for all to contribute to and benefit from the new economy. Human Resources Development Canada is the lead department for Knowledge Matters.
  • Labour
    The Labour Program has focused on the workplace, the changes affecting the workplace and the needs of employers and employees in Canada since 1900. There are currently four Directorates. These are, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Operations, Strategic Policy and Partnerships, and Workplace information Directorate.
  • Secretariat, Official Language Minority Communities
    The Secretariat, Official Language Minority Communities, coordinates HRDC's efforts to support official language minority communities. The Secretariat's role at HRDC is to ensure that the Department is kept up to date on new developments relating to the implementation of section 41. Among HRDC's obligations under section 41 is integrating Part VII of the Official Languages Act into the organizational culture and everyday activities of the Department. HRDC also has a responsibility to consult the various official language minority communities in Canada to determine their needs.
  • Thérèse Casgrain Volunteer Award
    The Thérèse Casgrain Volunteer Award recognizes the voluntary contributions of men and women from communities across Canada whose pioneering spirit social commitment and persistent endeavours have contributed significantly to the advancement of a cause and the well being of their fellow citizens.
