Inside City Hall
Municipal Profile
The City of Miramichi is situated in the northeastern part of the Province
of New Brunswick along the world famous Miramichi River, which empties into
the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Miramichi is the fourth largest city in New Brunswick,
with a population of approximately 19,241.
The City serves as the industrial
and business centre for over 50,000 people in the Miramichi region, which
includes Northumberland County. The Miramichi region is home to some of
the world’s best salmon angling, and tourism plays a key role in the economy
of the city and region. As well, resource-based industries such as pulp and
paper production are important to the area’s economy. Recently, knowledge-based
industries such as multimedia production have helped to bring the "new
economy" to our area. |
