The Miramichi Fire Department is a composite Fire Department consisting of both career and volunteer members who are responsible for providing emergency services to the residents of the City of Miramichi and approximately 31 rural areas.

The department currently maintains 17 full-time employees, 4 part-time employees and 50 volunteers who respond from four strategically located stations within the City allowing firefighters to arrive to the scene of an emergency as quickly as possible.

The Fire Department utilizes manpower and equipment for fire suppression, first aid, water rescue, ice water rescue and motor vehicle extrication.

The department consists of a full time Division Chief acting as a Fire Prevention Officer and Fire Investigator responsible for inspecting public and private buildings and structures within the Miramichi for the purpose of ensuring safety standards are maintained.  This officer is also responsible for providing public awareness through educating groups and the general public on fire prevention as well as being responsible for investigating fires determining origin and assisting in the gathering of evidence in suspected arson cases.
