Aquatic Programs
The City of Miramichi Community Wellness and Recreation Department
operates with the Lifesaving
Society's Program - Swim for Life (a new version for Drowning Prevention
and Active Living).
the Swim for Life Program goal is to provide a foundational swimming instruction
program that supports and helps the Lifesaving Society achieve our drowning
prevention Mission. The Society programs provide a complete continuum of
instruction in self rescue, swimming skills, lifesaving, first aid and Water
Smart education - something for all ages. the result is a program that is
accessible, flexible, success oriented and fun.
The program is designed for maximum success and accessibility by eliminating
unnecessary barriers to success. Learners are challenged to set goals beyond
the basic skill to become more efficient and increase their mastery of the
skills. The design also allows the program to meet the needs of learners
with a wide range of abilities or disabilities.
Swim to Survive - can be taken as an independent stand alone program or
as a part of the Swim for Life program continuum. It is unique in that it
focuses solely on achieving a single skill item: the Swim to Survive Standard.
This single level provides participants with the most critical set of personal
self rescue skills in the shortest possible time.
L'il Swimmer - is aimed at children from 6 months to 3+ years and their
caregivers. They participate together. The focus is not skill based, but
on a fun experience together.
The 4 unparented L'il Swimmer levels provide a graduated approach that build
confidence and comfort in the water and ultimately achieves the Swim to Survive
skills.
Swimmer - the five swimmer levels challenges learners to develop their Swim
to survive skills, learn swimming strokes, safe entries, support and underwater
skills. The target age group is children 6 and older.
Adult Swimmer - is designed for maximum flexibility around 3 different sets
of adult customers and their goals.
Adult Swimmer - may or may not be comfortable in the water and wants to
learn swimming strokes and skills. they choose which strokes and skills they
want to learn.
