French Fort Cove Trail

A 4 km trail beginning at the corner of Cove Road and Hwy. 8, an extension of Miramichi Lookout Park to the Nordin side of the historic French Fort Cove. A very scenic trail with many lookouts. A beaver colony can be seen busy at work in the morning and evenings and the call of loons is often heard.

A brief history…

Legend has it that a ship came up the Miramichi River with pirates on board – anchoring off the entrance at the French Fort Cove. They came ashore with boxes of gold and other treasures. These were buried under the trees or rocks on the north side of the bridge.

There is also the tale of the Headless Nun. The deadly deed took place at Corneille (Crow Brook). Today on that infamous spot, a bridge spans the brook that flows into the cove.

Millbank Trail

Exploring these ultimate walking trails during one’s leisure time will certainly prove to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

A 7.5 km trail beginning at the corner of Wellington St. and Water St. with a crushed gravel surface along an abandoned railway line to Chatham. The Miramichi River can be observed in numerous locations along the trail. There is a wide variety of wildlife and wild flowers. The trail is spectacular in the fall with an array of colours.

A brief history…

The railway was an important addition to the village. A.R. Loggie Co. and many other businesses in Loggieville prospered with the shipment of carloads of fish each day and many other products from the Miramichi.
