The City’s Public Works Department is responsible for operation and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, drainage, water, wastewater, and solid waste collection.
The Department is comprised of two divisions with a total of 40 full time employees.

The Public Works Department is responsible for the following:

- provision, treatment and distribution of potable water to all customers serviced with municipal water;
- operate and maintain the facilities necessary to collect and treat wastewater from all customers serviced with municipal sewer services;
- maintenance of streets, sidewalks, traffic lights, street lights, storm sewer, ditching, summer maintenance (patching, etc.), winter maintenance (snow plowing, snow removal, etc.) and solid waste collection.

These services are provided through a combination of municipal forces and contracted service providers.

Any citizen with a question or concern can contact the Public Works Department by phone at 623-2020. Our operations facilities are located at 20 Princess Street and 147 Mitchell Street.

Office Hours

Our regular office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, however emergency service is provided 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. Any one requiring public works emergency services after hours (evening, weekends and holidays) can contact the Department by dialing our phone number 623-2241.
