About the Department
The City of Miramichi Fire Department (MFD) is a composite department providing emergency service to residents of the City of Miramichi, under contract to some Local Service District areas, and to a First Nation for fire suppression, water rescue, ice water rescue, and motor vehicle extrication.
Fire Department Administration consists of a full-time Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief and an Administrative Assistant. Two Fire Prevention Officers, the Fire Department strives to protect the public from the risk of fire through proactive public education, building inspections and other fire code compliance, complaint based inspection services. In addition the MFD conducts fire investigations to determine cause and origin as well as assisting in gathering of evidence in suspected arson cases.
The Department’s Operations/Suppression Division is staffed with a complement of 20 career, 4 part time and 28 volunteer firefighters assigned to 4 platoons, responding from the 2 fire stations located in the east (Station 2) and west (Station 1) end of Miramichi. Both stations are staffed 24 hours per day. Station 3 located in the former town of Loggieville is staffed by an additional 6 volunteer officers and firefighters.
