Job Overview
Responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations of aquatic facilities and programs. This includes supervising staff, ensuring safety standards, planning and delivering aquatic programming, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants. The role works collaboratively with the Community Wellness and Recreation team to promote community engagement and support departmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, schedule, and supervise lifeguards and aquatic instructors.

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate aquatic programs, swim lessons, and special events.

  • Ensure a safe and positive experience for all patrons by maintaining high safety standards and addressing violations in accordance with City policies.

  • Conduct CPR, First Aid, and AED training for staff and City employees.

  • Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of aquatic staff.

  • Step in as lifeguard or instructor when needed, with availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Maintain documentation of staff certifications and ensure regular assessments of swimming skills.

  • Prepare and manage program schedules and budgets.

  • Promote aquatic programs through advertising, brochures, and community outreach.

  • Recommend changes to policies and procedures to improve safety and service delivery.

  • Operate office equipment and use computer software to support administrative tasks.

  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance programming and community engagement.

Required Qualifications

Two (2) years of recreation diploma supplemented with the following certifications:

  • NLS

  • Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer

  • Swim for Life Instructor Trainer

  • Bronze Cross Examiner

  • National Lifeguard Instructor

  • First Aid, CPR / AED Instructor

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in managing and developing aquatic programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
