200th Commemorative Year of the
Great Miramichi Fire 1825 – 2025
In October of 1825, the Miramichi region was forever changed by one of the largest and most devastating forest fires in Canadian history. The Great Miramichi Fire claimed hundreds of lives, destroyed entire communities, and reshaped the land, leaving a lasting mark on our people and our history.
Two centuries later, we honour the memory of those who were lost and the resilience of those who rebuilt. This 200th commemorative year is a time for reflection, remembrance, and recognition of the enduring strength that defines the Miramichi spirit.
Through special events, storytelling, and community gatherings, we come together to learn from the past and celebrate the courage that rose from the ashes.
