City Council Highlights for February 2026.

Senior city staff presented the Bridge Mitigation Plan to Miramichi City Council at a Council in Committee meetingTuesday, February 10th.
The presentation came after the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure announced the Centennial Bridge would be closing in 2026 and 2027. This years planned closure is scheduled for April 1st to December 1st.

Beal University Canada is pleased to announce the opening of a new satellite location in Miramichi, New Brunswick, dedicated to supporting the delivery and expansion of its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program. This expansion reflects the university’s commitment to addressing critical healthcare workforce needs and strengthening access to nursing education in Atlantic Canada.

City Council highlights from the Regular Meeting of January 20th, 2026.

The City of Miramichi is pleased to announce the hiring of Greg Sargent as its Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective February 16th, 2026.

Mayor Adam Lordon and City Council recognized and honoured eight community volunteers with Community Service Awards for Volunteers at the 2026 Levee.

Council highlights for December 2025.

Mayor Adam Lordon and city council recognized the service of longtime employees and retirees at the December 16th, 2025 Regular Council Meeting.
Members of City Staff were recognized for their years of service. Those with 35 years and 30 years of service were presented with a certificate. The others were acknowledged by Mayor Lordon.

Following the ratification of the collective agreement between the City of Miramichi and CUPE Local 3863 on December 2nd, 2025, it was officially signed on December 9th, 2025.
Mayor Adam Lordon and CUPE Local 1387 President Adrien Robichaud signed the four year agreement which covers the period of January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2028.

Miramichi City Council passed the city’s four budgets at a Special Council Meeting on December 2nd, 2025.
City council held three days of public deliberations on November 12th, November 24th, and November 25th before adopting the final budget which includes four separate budgets.

Following the ratification of the collective agreement between the City of Miramichi and CUPE Local 1387 on November 4th, 2025, it was officially signed on November 26th, 2025.

Here are the highlights from the Regular Council meeting on Nov. 18th, 2025.

Cheques were presented to charities, non-profits, and to city staff helping Christmas families. The funds come from the proceeds raised at the Gerry Cormier Memorial Charity Golf Tournament organized by city staff and held on honour of the former mayor each summer.

The Arbec Wellness Centre fundraising committee is inviting local businesses, families, and residents to become a partner in contributing to building the future central hub for recreation, wellness, and social connection in the City of Miramichi.

An update on Miramichi City Council meetings from mid-September to mid-October.

The Great Miramichi Fire of 1825 was declared a National Historic Event by the Government of Canada on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025.

The Miramichi Police Force’s Community Safety Action Plan was presented to City Council by Chief Brian Cummings at a Council in Committee Meeting held Tuesday, October 14th, 2025. In addition to the efforts already being undertaken to address community concerns that include homelessness, addiction and the perceived rise in crime, the police force will create a Community Safety Action Team and a Prolific Offender Management Initiative.
A Neighbourhood Watch Program will be created along with a Community Drug Committee.

The City of Miramichi has entered into an agreement with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) under the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF). There are eight (8) Housing Accelerator Fund initiatives and incentives explained here.
