Notice of Public Presentation
As part of its efforts to reduce red tape and make the development of new housing units easier, the City of Miramichi is proposing a number of changes to its Municipal Plan (By-law No. 109) and Zoning By-law (By-law No. 110), related to housing. These amendments will affect many properties in the City and could change the uses permitted on your property.
The City has entered into an agreement with Canada mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) under the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF), which requires amendments to the Municipal Plan and Zoning By-law to meet two specific conditions:
· Permitting a minimum of four residential units “as of right” in all areas serviced by municipal water and sewer (subject to further regulation)
· Allowing multi-unit residential development within the Regional Commercial (RC) zone
Other housing-related amendments are proposed, aimed at increasing residential density and addressing administrative provisions related to housing in the Zoning By-law. Additionally, other amendments are also being proposed to the Municipal Plan By-Law and Zoning By-Law:
· Permit residential uses in Regional Commercial and Commercial zones
· Increase number of permitted units in R-3 and R-4 zones
· Amend definitions and, parking requirements
As part of the public engagement process for the By-laws, there will be a Public Presentation on September 2nd, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Beaverbrook Kin Centre, 100 Newcastle Boulevard, Miramichi, NB.
