Applications for the Police Cadet Sponsorship Program will be accepted until January 30th, 2026.

The City of Miramichi and the Miramichi Police Force is proud to offer a Police Cadet Sponsorship Program in partnership with Holland College - Atlantic Police Academy, supporting police recruitment and identifying future officers.
Whether you are entering the workforce or considering a meaningful career change, this program offers a supported pathway into policing. Participants receive high-quality, accredited training through Holland College - Atlantic Police Academy, with full program cost reimbursement and a position within the Miramichi Police Force upon successful completion of the program, setting the foundation for a stable and rewarding career in law enforcement.

Deadline for Submissions – January 30th, 2026

PLEASE ATTACH THE FOLLOWING IN PDF FORMAT FOR CONSIDERATION:

1.   Cover letter including your prepared answers to the following:

a. Why do you want to become a police officer with the Miramichi Police Force? How do you think your particular characteristics, skills, training, experience and abilities will contribute to our community-based policing model?
b.  As a police officer, the expectations around your actions are incredibly high in terms of your values, ethics and professional behaviour.
The Miramichi Police Force values include: Integrity, Respect, Trust, Safety, Progress, and Community. What do these values mean to you and how do these attributes show up in your life.

 2.   Resume (no more than 2 pages) Please include:

a.    Current Contact Information
b.   Complete Employment and Volunteer History
c.    Current Education and Training
d.   Other relevant skills and experience

3.   Proof of Atlantic Police Academy (APA) Eligibility

a.   Proof of Canadian citizenship or Canadian permanent resident status
b.   High School Diploma or Post-Secondary Documentation
c.   Birth Certificate – Must be 19 years of age by program start date
d.   Completion of an APA Medical Assessment Form *
e.   Completion of an APA Visual Examination Form *
f.    Completion of an APA Immunization Verification Form *
g.   Completion of First Aid, CPR Level C and AED*
h.   Valid Class 5 (cars and light trucks) unrestricted driver’s license
i.     Recent Driver’s Abstract (not older than 6 months)
j.     Recent Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) with no findings of guilt (not older than 6 months)
k.    Signed Authorization to Exchange Information with A Third Party

 * Application packages will be accepted without the required medical forms and First Aid Certification as long as a confirmation of pending appointments / course registration are included.

 4.   Three letters of reference speaking to your personal attributes; work ethic, community involvement; etc. (Non- family members). See  APA template.

The Miramichi Police Cadet Sponsorship Selection Process will include multiple stages:

•   Stage 1 - Initial Application Package Review
•   Stage 2 - Aptitude Testing
•   Stage 3 - Initial Background Check and Security Clearance / Completion of Pre-employment Polygraph (PEP) Booklet (APA)
•   Stage 4 - Integrity/Organizational Suitability Interview
•   Stage 5 - Short Panel Interview
•   Stage 6 - Psychological Assessment
•   Completion of PARE Test (<4min 45 for admission to APA)
•   Stage 7 – Final Selection / Offer of Sponsorship upon APA Admission

Applicants chosen to proceed in the Miramichi Police Cadet Sponsorship Selection Process will be notified by email by February 20th, 2026.
