Position Title: Manager of Transit
Reports to: CAO or designate
Position Summary: The Transit Manager is responsible for the leadership, planning, and operational performance of Miramichi Transit. The role oversees daily service delivery, strategic and short‑term planning, fixed‑route transit services, workforce management, community engagement, and revenue‑generating activities such as advertising. The position ensures that Miramichi Transit provides safe, reliable, accessible, and customer‑focused public transportation aligned with the community’s evolving mobility needs.
Required Qualifications
• A post‑secondary degree in business administration, public administration, transportation management, urban planning, or a related field.
• Experience in transit operations, municipal service delivery, or a comparable transportation environment.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a supervisory or management role.
• An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Responsibilities:
Service Planning & Operations
• Develop, evaluate, and optimize transit routes, schedules, and service models.
• Oversee fleet management, including maintenance planning, lifecycle replacement, and compliance with safety standards.
• Ensure consistent delivery of dependable, efficient, and accessible transit service for all users.
• Implement City directives and support long‑term strategic planning for system growth and modernization.
Financial & Administrative Management
• Analyze operational and financial data to support evidence‑based decision‑making.
• Prepare the annual operating budget, monthly financial updates, ridership analytics, and performance reports.
• Oversee fare collection processes, revenue tracking, and financial controls.
• Support payroll functions and ensure accurate monitoring of overtime, leave balances, and staffing levels.
Workforce Leadership
• Recruit, train, supervise, and support transit staff, including drivers and administrative personnel.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety‑focused workplace culture.
• Provide regular performance feedback and support professional development.
• Ensure compliance with employment standards, health and safety regulations, and organizational policies.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
• Lead public engagement activities, including consultations, community meetings, and targeted outreach to riders and stakeholders.
• Build strong working relationships with City departments, particularly Economic Development, Engineering, and Public Works, to support coordinated service delivery.
• Promote transit as a key contributor to community mobility, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
Revenue Development & Marketing
• Manage advertising sales and renewals for buses, shelters, and digital platforms.
• Support marketing initiatives, public communication, and social media presence to enhance ridership and community awareness.
• Identify opportunities for partnerships, grants, and service expansion.
Other Duties
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
