City Council Highlights for September 16th Regular Council Meeting

At the Regular Council Meeting held on Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, City Council approved a series of motions to have buildings demolished and removed at the following locations:

  • 225 Duke Street - tender awarded to Delway Enterprises Ltd. for $22,195

  • 15 McCurdy Street - tender awarded to Goodfellow’s Trucking Ltd. for $15,525

  • 28 Sandcastle Drive (former C-Shells Restaurant) - tender awarded to IQ Environmental Inc. for $366,449.75. This includes demolishing the remainder of the building recently destroyed by fire, clean up the debris and remediate the site.

  • 15 Tait Street - tender awarded to Delway Enterprises Ltd for $8,970

  • 17 Tait Street - tender awarded to Delway Enterprises Ltd for $18,170

As part of the motions, the City Clerk is authorized to initiate collection efforts with the property owner to reimburse the City of Miramichi for costs associated with the cleanup. In the event that the collection efforts fail, the City Clerk is authorized to proceed with a request for reimbursement of remediation costs incurred by the City of Miramichi with the Province of New Brunswick.

The work on all is expected to be completed by November.

City Council approved a motion to give assent to an amendment of the Plaza Subdivision on Norma Street to allow a city-owned property in the area to be rezoned from passive recreation/greenspace to medium-density B residential. The rezoning will aid in the facilitation of future multi-unit housing developments.

City Council passed the first and second readings of proposed changes to the traffic, parking, and street use by-law to permit free public parking on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Victoria Street to ease parking issues around the Public Service Pay Centre.

If approved, 13 new parking spots will be created on Victoria Street Extension and parking will be permitted along the north side of Victoria Avenue, from the roundabout near the pay centre to Henderson Street, and on the south side of Victoria, from University Avenue to Henderson and for 109 metres west of University Avenue.
