City Council Highlights - March 2026
At the Regular Council Meeting of March 17th, 2026, City Council passed a motion to sell the former Loggieville Fire Hall, located at 4343 Water Street to Kelly’s Plumbing & Heating for $141,500.
The property had been declared surplus when it was closed in August 2025.
City Council also approved the sale of another surplus property located on Carroll Street to 696311 NB Ltd. O/A Pro-built Homes for $31,000.
A motion to adopt one of the three scenarios that were part of the development of a Growth Plan for the City was made. Council picked Option #2: Balanced Growth Scenario, which offers the continued infill development, that is consistent with the current City of Miramichi Municipal Plan, and strategic greenfield development that is expected to yield increased tax base.
The plan will be finalized after a future presentation to council.
City council approved a one-time grant of $10,000 to Carrefour Communautaire Beausoliel in 2026 and directed the city treasurer to include an annual grant of $10,000 for the group for consideration in the 2027 Operating Budget.
City council approved a motion to amend a lease agreement with Chi Breezy Cafe to
By-Law No. 101-1, A By-Law to Amend By-Law No. 101, A By-Law Regarding Council Salaries and Allowances received first and second readings.

A motion was passed to adopt the City of Miramichi 2026-2029 Capital Renewal Plan for the Capital Renewal Funding.
A motion was passed at the February 24th Special Council Meeting to award Tender 26-013 to purchase a Police Pursuit Rated Sports Utility Vehicle from Town Chrysler for $69,220.22.
A motion was passed at the February 24th Special Council Meeting to award Tender 26-014 to purchase a Special Service Rated ¾ Ton Truck from Town Chrysler for $80,714.48.
A motion was passed at the February 24th Special Council Meeting to award Tender 26-001 - Nelson Dam Decommissioning to Vye Construction and Paving Ltd. for $228,426.79.
A motion was passed at the February 24th Special Council Meeting to award Tender 26-00r - Ramsay Street Reconstruction to North Shore Construction Ltd. for $443,647.

A motion was passed at the March 3rd Special Council Meeting to appoint Tracy Miersch, Mary Swain and Tyler Stewart to serve on the City Planning and Review Adjustment Committee.
A motion was passed at the March 3rd Special Council Meeting to award Tender No. 26-004 - Duke Street Reconstruction to Vye Construction and Paving Ltd. for $1,450,610.
After a Public Hearing was held on February 24th, city council granted the rezoning of 660 Old King Highway from General Commercial to General Commercial -Specific Proposal for 767536 NB Ltd. (Kathleen Crawford) to enable the development of a dog daycare, overnight pet boarding and pet grooming business with a number of conditions. By-Law No. 110-51, A By-Law to Amend By-Law No. 110, the City of Miramichi Zoning By-Law was read three times and passed.
A motion was passed at the March 10th Special Council Meeting to adopt the facility name in management report CWR-2026-002 - Naming of Outdoor Rink from Chatham Outdoor Rink to Wayne Macdonald Outdoor Rink in honour of longtime volunteer, Wayne ‘Blackie” MacDonald.
A motion was passed at the March 10th Special Council Meeting to award RFP #26-018 Operations of Station Wharf to the Miramichi Boat and Yacht Club for $64,662.85.
MNP LLP were appointed as auditors for the City for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025 for $46,000.
