City Council Highlights for May 20th Regular Council Meeting

The Mayor’s Youth in Action Committee presented their report of the Youth in Action Day to City Council on May 20th, 2025

At the Regular Council Meeting held on May 20th, 2025, City Council were presented with limited edition collector coins commemorating the City’s 30th Anniversary and the 200th Commemoration of the Great Miramichi Fire.

Mayor Lordon accepted a plaque from Economic Development and Tourism Director Jeff MacTavish, featuring the coins to commemorate the occasion. One side of the coin features a logo designed for 30th Anniversary. The other side of the coin features a drawing created by Indigenous artist, Pauline Young for the 200th Commemoration of the Great Miramichi Fire.

The Mayor’s Youth in Action Committee presented their report of the Youth in Action Day which focused on the three topics of mental health, giving back and the unhoused. About 60 students visited different locations throughout the city to learn more about each topic and experience first hand how some operated. The students have plans for 2026 that will get more students involved with the day. Watch here for their full presentation.

City Council approved a motion to sell PID #40543761 to Chatham Non-Profit Housing for $161,000.
