City Council Highlights - January 2026
At the Regular Council Meeting of January 20th, 2026, City Council approved a motion to execute a contract with Milton Stewart through his company, 658519 NB Inc. for the operation of the Over the Cove Zipline at French Fort Cove for the 2026 summer and fall dates at a cost of $95,000 plus HST.
The zipline will operate from June 27th to September 7th, 2026 for seven days per week from noon to 7 p.m. The fall dates of operation will be from September 12th to October 12th on weekends and holiday from noon to 6 p.m.

Other motions made by City Council at meetings held between January 8th, 2026 and January 20th, 2026 are as follows:
A delegation from ACRE outlined a proposal for a regional recycling hub by diverting dry waste from the landfill at a proposed location on St. Patrick’s Drive in Miramichi.
Approved a motion for the City to submit its application bid to co-host, with the Municipality of Nouvelle-Arcadie, for either the 47th games of the Jeux L’Acadie in 2028 or the 48th games of the Jeux L’Acadie in 2029.
Approved a motion to hire a new Chief Administrative Officer.
By-Law No. 55-23, A By-Law to Amend By-Law No. 55, A By-Law of the City of Miramichi to Regulate Traffic, Parking and the Use of Streets received third reading and will be enacted upon approval of the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. These amendments will address on-street parking near the Civic Centre, and update various schedules including Stop Signs, Yield Signs, Maximum Speed of Vehicles, Crosswalks and Administrative Penalties.
Approved a motion to consider amendment to By-Law No. 11O, City of Miramichi Zoning By-Law, to change the zoning from "General Commercia! (GC)" to General Commercial - Specific proposal for the Subject Property PID 40182578 located at 660 Old King George Highway to permit a dog daycare, overnight pet kenneling and pet grooming business. A public hearing was scheduled for February 24th, 2026.
