City Council Highlights for November 18th Regular Council Meeting
At the Regular Council Meeting of November 18th, 2025, A number of presentations were made by Mayor Adam Lordon on behalf of the City.
Cheques were presented to charities, non-profits, and to city staff helping Christmas families. The funds came from the proceeds raised at the Gerry Cormier Memorial Charity Golf Tournament organized by city staff and held in honour of the former mayor each summer. A consulting firm made a presentation on three options for the replacement of the Chatham Library. City council will review and have further discussions at a Special Council Meeting on Monday, November 24th, 2025 at 6 p.m.
Acting Manager and Treasurer Nancy Gorman has been presenting the 2026 City budget to council over a series of meeting in the last month.
General Operating Budget – funds municipal programs and services - $48.7 million
Utility Operating Budget– funds the provision of water and sewerage services - $6.63 million
Utility Capital Budget – funds new construction as well as updates to existing infrastructure - $5.06 million
General Capital Budget – funds new construction as well as updates to existing infrastructure - $45.5 million
City council will vote on the budget on Tuesday, November 25th, 2025.
Other motions made by City Council at meetings held between October 21st, 2025 and November 12th, 2025 are as follows:
Extended the contract for animal control services to Antonio LeBlanc for a 12 month period from January 1st, 2026 to December 31st, 2026 for $69,733.13.
Approved a motion to have city staff explore the opportunity to deliver transit services as a municipal function.
Approved By-Law No. 70-24 for the Business Improvement Area Levy in the former town of Chatham and the former town of Newcastle.
Approved a motion to ratify the tentative negotiated agreement between the City and Local 1387 for the period of January 1st, 2025 to December 31st, 2028.
Approved a motion to declare two pieces of city property, PID 40328189 and 40062325 as surplus property with an economic development designation and staff be authorized to begin the process of selling the property.
Approved a motion to provide a grant to Hospice Miramichi Inc. of $18,000 to offset the cost of the water and sewage connection fee for their property at 41 Harper Road.
Approved motions to transfer $500,446 from the General Operating Reserve Fund to General Operating Fund and trasfer $43,650 from Utility Operating Reserve Fund to Utility Operating Fund.
