New mayor and council sworn-in

At a special council meeting held on Monday, May 25th, 2026, the City of Miramichi’s recently elected mayor and council were officially sworn-in at an Oath of Office Ceremony.
After Mayor Veronique Arsenault called the meeting to order, Chief Administrative Officer Greg Sargent welcomed everyone and did the land acknowledgement. Ella Howe sang O’Canada before Elder Tully Paul performed the Honour Song.

Judge Matthew Cripps administered the Oaths of Office to Mayor Arsenault, Councillor Peggy Doyle, Councillor Terry Doyle, Councillor Lisa Harris, Councillor Brian King, Councillor Lori Matchett, Councillor Paddy Quinn, Councillor Tim Sutton, and Councillor Terry L. Whalen.
Following the mayor’s swearing-in, she was presented the Chain of Office by CAO Sargent.
Following the ceremony, Councillor Quinn accepted the nomination for Deputy Mayor.
Each were provided the opportunity to read statements that shared appreciation to family and friends, promises and requests as they looked forward to serving the city for four years.
