The Rotary Club of Chatham has donated $250,000 to the City of Miramichi to secure the naming rights of the indoor walking track at the Arbec Wellness Centre.

The indoor walking track will be named the Rotary Club of Chatham Walking Track for the life of the centre.

Club president Roger Stewart spoke for the members.

“On behalf of the Rotary Club of Chatham, and the citizens of Miramichi who support our fundraising efforts, the club likes to be as transparent as possible and ensure that every dollar possible is spent within the city and surrounding areas,” Stewart said.

“This contribution is no different. We are proud to put our name on the Arbec Wellness Centre in recognition of our $250,000 donation.”

This is the latest contribution to the fundraising campaign that was launched in 2024. With a goal to raise $5 million for the multiplex project, the goal was increased due to significant contributions.

Other donations include $4 million from Arbec for the naming rights of the building. The Campton Christie Foundation Inc. donated $300,000 for the naming rights of the leisure pool and competition pool. Deborah Lyons, the honourary chair of the fundraising campaign donated $250,000 for the naming rights to the gymnasium.

Frank and Julie McKenna donated $1 million for the naming rights of the aquatic centre. It will be known as the McKenna Aquatic Centre.

Dr. Gerard Losier donated $350,000 to have the lobby and reception area named after his wife, Judy.

If anyone is interested in donating to this fundraising campaign for the Multiplex project, they can contact Sandra Gauger at the City of Miramichi.
