Following the ratification of the collective agreement between the City of Miramichi and CUPE Local 3863 on December 2nd, 2025, it was officially signed on December 9th, 2025.
Mayor Adam Lordon and CUPE Local 1387 President Adrien Robichaud signed the four year agreement which covers the period of January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2028.

Miramichi City Council passed the city’s four budgets at a Special Council Meeting on December 2nd, 2025.
City council held three days of public deliberations on November 12th, November 24th, and November 25th before adopting the final budget which includes four separate budgets.

Cheques were presented to charities, non-profits, and to city staff helping Christmas families. The funds come from the proceeds raised at the Gerry Cormier Memorial Charity Golf Tournament organized by city staff and held on honour of the former mayor each summer.

The Arbec Wellness Centre fundraising committee is inviting local businesses, families, and residents to become a partner in contributing to building the future central hub for recreation, wellness, and social connection in the City of Miramichi.

The Great Miramichi Fire of 1825 was declared a National Historic Event by the Government of Canada on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025.

The Miramichi Police Force’s Community Safety Action Plan was presented to City Council by Chief Brian Cummings at a Council in Committee Meeting held Tuesday, October 14th, 2025. In addition to the efforts already being undertaken to address community concerns that include homelessness, addiction and the perceived rise in crime, the police force will create a Community Safety Action Team and a Prolific Offender Management Initiative.
A Neighbourhood Watch Program will be created along with a Community Drug Committee.

The City of Miramichi has entered into an agreement with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) under the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF). There are eight (8) Housing Accelerator Fund initiatives and incentives explained here.

Highlights from the Regular Council Meeting held September 16th, 2025.

At a Council in Committee Meeting on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, Miramichi Police Force Chief Brian Cummings advised City Council on the actions being taken to address drug use and public safety issues. The presentation came as a result of concerns expressed by city residents and the business community in Downtown Newcastle.

A Public Presentation on the Proposed Housing Amendments was held on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025 at 6 p.m. at the Miramichi Kin Centre.

The Public Presentation was a required step in the Municipal Act for by-law changes. While there will be other meetings and discussions over the next few weeks, this was the first public part of the process.

The Rotary Club of Chatham has donated $250,000 to the City of Miramichi to secure the naming rights of the indoor walking track at the Arbec Wellness Centre.The indoor walking track will be named the Rotary Club of Chatham Walking Track for the life of the centre.

The government is providing the City of Miramichi with $1.8 million to update infrastructure and enable two housing developments.

Senator David Adams Richards was joined by family, friends, community members and visitors and more to unveil the first Canadian Literary Trail Bookmark plaque in New Brunswick.

It is the 30th Bookmark installed by Project Bookmark Canada. The bilingual plaques recognize Senator David Adams Richards and his acclaimed novel The Friends of Meager Fortune.

Project Bookmark Canada will unveil its 30th Bookmark on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. ADT at a ceremony in the City of Miramichi — a milestone that extends the literary trail’s presence across all ten provinces. The bilingual plaques recognize Senator David Adams Richards and his acclaimed novel The Friends of Meager Fortune.

A $350,000 donation from Dr. Gerard Losier for the naming rights to the lobby and reception area in the Arbec Wellness Centre came as a big surprise to his wife, Judy Losier.Mayor Adam Lordon revealed the facility’s lobby and reception area will carry her name. It will be named The Judy Losier Lobby and Reception Area for the life of the centre.

The City of Miramichi honoured seven individuals and one organization as Freeman of the City at an event held for them at the Rodd Miramichi on Thursday, June 26th.
